Media and Communications Chair
In her position on the Board of Directors, rita gabriela márquez leads a committee to manage all public communication accounts including but not limited to: Facebook, Instagram and our website. She facilitates publicity efforts for NR events by working with other committees to design flyers and event materials. The committee organizes media collection for the organization by scheduling photo shoots and liaising with photographers and videographers for performance events. The committee also designs merchandise to be sold for fundraising purposes.
rita gabriela márquez has been a member of Nuestras Raíces for about 25 years. She earned her B.A in Latin American Studies from Wellesley College where she was a student organizer. She advocated for the implementation of Ethnic Studies curriculum and better supports and resources for low-income, first-generation and queer students of color. She proudly organized an Ethnic Studies Conference and aided in the establishment of a Latinx Studies program at the college. While at Wellesley, rita also directed and choreographed for Cielito Lindo, the campus latin dance organization. She graduated in 2016 and has since then worked as an elementary school educator in various capacities including as a(n): special education aide, behavior interventionist, english language instructor, and math and science teacher.
