The Southern part of Veracruz (and northern Oaxaca) is home to one of the best- known and most-admired music and dance traditions in the world. The son jarocho is performed on the jarana jarocha (used for rhythm), the requinto jarocho (used for melody), the jarocho harp (its most important instrument, used for bass and melody), and the zapateado, which is the percussive and complimentary footwork. In some cases, instruments are added or taken away to reflect the musical group’s preferences.
Please join us as we celebrate música jarocha with traditional sones from the state of Veracruz.
