Argelia Andrade

Artistic Director

Dr. Argelia Andrade is the founder and director of Nuestras Raíces. Argelia also choreographs and teaches in the organization. In addition, Argelia teaches and choreographs Mexican and Spanish dance for various dance companies and institutions. She was dance faculty at Santa Monica College for over ten years, where she taught Mexican dance and Spanish dance. She is a dance artist in residence for LAUSD (Mendez High School). She is tenured faculty in the division of Humanities at El Camino College. She is a quadruple Bruin, earning her four degrees at UCLA. Exploring the intersection between traditional art forms and performance and creating community leaders by means of educational attainment are her main professional goals. Currently, she performs with Rina Orellana’s Flamenco Dance Academy and Virginia Carmelo’s Xipe Totec Danzantes Aztecas. Argelia Andrade, has been studying and performing Mexican and Spanish dance in the United States and internationally since age three. She has performed in important venues, including Royce Hall, Disneyland, the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center, and the Degollado Theater in Guadalajara, Mexico, among others.
